Communication lessons from times of Corona virus!
Indian PM - Requests everyone to stay home and stay safe and avoid unnecessary outing in the public places. Addresses the nation to self impose a curfew 'public curfew' on this Sunday. Urges people not to cut wages of workers. Very rarely have people seen this communication style where leader and people seem to be very much in agreement
US President - tells people on social distancing, giving hand outs to public $1000 each and $1 trillion to companies as a bailout measure for finances to not fail and soft lock down of many states. President Trump being himself and straight to the point.
EU Premier - worries about finance industry, blocks borders except for essential services and all smaller countries are asked to impose strict measures. Urged people not to hoard things and behave orderly. Each head of state in agreement and special measures in place by government of Germany, France, Belgium and Netherlands - the EU front runners. Direct style of addressing and people being told what to do
Middle Eastern Rulers - Major Monarchs and head of states - shut down commercial and public spaces except for essential services except for Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with straight forward communication. Migrant workers living in deplorable conditions and some sent back home or had to be evacuated by their home countries due to lack of medical facilities
Chinese Premier - He had been strict from the time of outbreak and put many regions under lockdown and created many makeshift medical facilities to cure those suffering from the virus. He communicated through state machinery (state owned TV and radio) with messages communicating no one should step out unless essential including Hong Kong, all offices and factories to remain shut until containment and directives to Military to patrol the roads and impost strict actions against those that do not follow the directives
Which one style can we learn lessons from on how to communicate in times of distress? Do you want to share any development and appreciate a regions effectiveness?
As I write this, I have got to know that the medicines and antibiotics for Malaria and Aids have shown positive results in fighting against the Corona Virus.
I hope that brings relief to one and all and soon we can have a vaccine against the disease.
