Communication Skills

Dear younger me,

I've been thinking a lot about the things I've learned on this journey called life, and I felt it was time to share some of these nuggets with you, and why not let others in on it too? So, I'm starting a little series of posts on LinkedIn, thinking our professional friends might find them handy as well.

If there's one piece of advice I could give you, it would be to choose communication skills as your superpower.

It's amazing how much of a difference good communication can make. It can open doors, build bridges, and sometimes, it can even mend broken hearts. It's about making your dreams a little easier to reach. Who wouldn't want that?

Here's the thing: read to get to know the world better, write to clear your head, and listen to really connect with people.

Sure, it takes some effort and patience, but it's really as simple as doing a little bit every day. Write to find your voice. When you talk, keep it short and sweet, make it relatable, and speak from the heart. When you listen, do it to understand, especially when you don't agree. You'd be surprised how much you can learn.

And one more thing – take your time. If you've got something worth saying, people will listen. If not, maybe it's better left unsaid.

Becoming a good communicator is more than just about talking; it's about being a better you. It changes how people see you and, more importantly, how you understand yourself and the world around you.

I’m by no means a master of communication now. Together, we've come a long way, yet the journey of improvement continues.
