In the electricity subsector, communication is done with energy specific communication protocols such as IEC 60870-5 for data acquisition and control between substations and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, IEC 60870 for communications between control center's over wide area networks (WANs) or IEC 61850 series for communications within substation.
IEC 62351 series is defining cybersecurity of products that are communicating with communication protocols typically used in electricity systems with a focus on end-to-end protection while considering security policies, processes and technologies in order to address integrity, availability and confidentiality.
