How and when did your APS story begin??

My journey at APS started 3 years ago when I was appointed as a structural engineer. The role of a structural engineer allowed me to work on various projects from day one. I was able to work with a lot of people and on many projects in a very short period and gain insight and knowledge about fa?ade engineering. In the period of less than one year, I was leading my first project where I had space to express myself to the maximum and make my mark on it.???

What has been the best team experience for you and why??

The interaction with people - I am experiencing this on a daily base. I’m surrounded by people better than me and they are making me a better person. Inside and outside the company I’m very grateful to work with amazing and talented individuals. That surrounding is contributing a lot to my personal growth.?

Describe your work to us in three words??

Dynamic, challenging, and exciting.?

What are some goals you set for yourself at the start of your role??

The first goal I set for myself was to maintain a good relationship with people around me. Trust is a crucial thing to have inside the team. That is built by sharing the same values and beliefs to have a sense that another person inside the team is driven by things other than their self-gain.?

The second thing is to be more of a listener than a speaker. Being open to feedback and new ideas from the team helps me to have a better grip on the current situation to make the right decisions.??

What’s motivating you most right now??

Family is my main motivation and always has been. Support from my wife daily is lifting me and keeping my motivation tank filled up. Also being in contact with my parents help me to stay on track. They have a large role in raising me to be the person I am today.?

What’s one important lesson you’ve learned at work in the past year??

Never give up. Great things take time.?

What professional accomplishment are you most proud of??

From an engineer's perspective, I am most proud when a project is successfully completed. That moment when you realize that all team efforts invested in solving a lot of issues along the way, resulted in the satisfaction of our clients. Nothing can beat that moment.?

No matter how small a project is, that feeling of joy I’m always experiencing. That is a drive for new challenges as well.????

If you could pick up a new skill in an instant, what would it be??

Extra fast typing. It would be a massive time saver as email correspondence takes a lot of my time daily.?

What do you wish someone had told you during your studies? What advice??

Don't be afraid of change. You may lose something good at the moment, but you'll gain something better. The second advice should be to get out of the comfort zone, as soon as possible.
