Communication and Messaging

At PE Services, we strive to do good work, always.??Part of that process is evaluating how we communicate and what messages we share with those around us.??The messages we send as professionals in road/bridge construction are so important.?As professionals we are ALWAYS sending messages.?Think for a moment about the messages you are sending your clients, your partners, your employees, and your co-workers on the projects you are working on.??Are they professional, are they truly reflective of your values and integrity???What and how we act each day on a project are analyzed inside and outside our projects.??The language we use, the thoroughness of our work, everything is subject to scrutiny and opinion.?Negative or positive, the work we do each day leaves a message with those we interact with; are the messages we leave truly reflective of the legacy we intend to leave or are there days when we do not put our best image forward??I suspect many of us have both types of days.

Often, we send signals that can minimize or maximize the messages we are providing.??Thinking about the multiplier affect of our words, actions and outputs combined with how we share this information with others has an impact on whether they want to work with us again.?When we work with others on projects, how do we uphold integrity and systems? Do we make exceptions or are we diligent about ensuring all parties comply with regulations or standards???Do we come to complex projects with a mindset towards solutions and results or are we involved in identification of problems and obstacles – perhaps we have served both roles on projects???Think about how your actions as a construction professional might be interpreted by different parties.?Warren Buffett once said it takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.?If you think of that always, you will likely perform differently.?Being authentic, operating with high integrity and always with an eye towards a common goal are some that motivate me each day to do better.?What are yours?
