I receive numerous invitations through LinkedIn, and almost all suffer the following:
? Too lengthy – Most messages received may look at the headline and the first few sentences.
? Not personalized – The message receivers can instantly tell if this is a form letter. One easy
solution is to study the receiver’s LinkedIn page to find commonalities.
? Boasting of vast capabilities – We We We. If the lack of focus leaves the message receiver with
confusion, the sender must cut it down to bare essentials.
? Inward focused instead of outward focused (results from boasting).
? No call to action – What is the sender asking for?
In short, the invitations are focused inward, not outward. Here is an example:
