Communication is the Key & the Lock

mygreatauntedna.com

Why did God not make humans mute?? You have to admit, we say some really stupid things. ?If we were only able to think stupid things, and not say stupid things, I am under the impression that our functioning world would be in a much better place. ?Am I alone in this assumption? ?Think about it, if the dumbest expression you’ve ever heard, was never heard, wouldn’t you be better off for it? ?Over the years, I have heard some really dumb expressions, both directly and indirectly. ?One of the reasons why Tik Tok is so famous is because people spend hours upon hours listening to and watching the dumbest communicators that the world has to offer.? It’s literally a comedic break to see that people are really dumber than you are, after you know that you have recently said some really stupid things, and then you can get back to your life feeling better about yourself.

Now with all of that being said, what about the fact that some really good and important communication that should be stated, never occurs? ?Is that not just as impactful as the stupid expression that was stated?? I may even argue that this is even more important. ?If Mother Teresa only served the downtrodden of Kolkata, India, but never communicated the importance of her mission in relation to the Christian religion, would we even know who she is or contributed millions of dollars from around the world to her cause?? If your spouse/partner never communicates their real inner feelings during your relationship, is it really a surprise that you may find yourself a single individual in the near future? ?Bringing this to the point that My Great Aunt EDNA always ends up with, in leadership, if you never communicate honestly and frequently with your team, is it no wonder that your team finds themselves a new work home??

In life, communication is the key and the lock.?It is the key to healthy relationships, strong functional teams, diplomacy, intellectual growth, and organizational vision implementation. Conversely, it is also the lock to successful solution diligence, emotional collectiveness, shared vision, and may I add, intimacy.? The lack of communication can be just as detrimental to teams as expressing a bunch of stupid things. ?Vocal cords have power beyond the audible sonic waves that they create in the atmosphere.? They have the power to penetrate mind, soul, and spirit. ?So much so that the soul will begin to yearn for sound in the absence of its presence. ?However, the soul does not operate alone.? The mind will covet something to interpret in the absence of communication and will eventually satisfy its pining with a substitute concept to ponder.

So, you are asking yourself at this moment, how does any of this relate to My Great Aunt EDNA or leadership?? Doing Things the Right Way includes the absolute necessity for proper communication.? How can one know what the right way is to do anything, if one has never been communicated to what that is? ?Many leaders make the mistake of assuming that their team members know what the right way to do something is, but they have never truly communicated this. ?It lives in their own membrane, which is likely very detailed and understood within themselves, but unfortunately God did not give us the ability to see beyond the calvarium, interpret its electronic pulses within the middle cranial fossa, and translate this into shit that makes sense to us.? As humans, we require communication; vocal, signals, or otherwise.

In leadership, communication needs to be frequent, multi-channeled, and most important honest. ?I cannot begin to tell you how much I personally hate “corporate communication” from leaders that is laced with padded words to appease, half-inform, deflect, and ultimately deceive the receivers of the communication.? The sad thing is that corporate leaders that reach a certain level of leadership are actually taught how to do this with the assistance of script writers, lawyers, and professional bullshitters.? It is a sad state of affairs, and no wonder that employees begin to quietly quit after exposure to multiple episodes of this.

My Great Aunt EDNA is a firm believer in communicating honestly so that the team members are properly equipped with the necessary understanding to Do Things the Right Way.? She also believes in not withholding communication that can assist the team in either gaining understanding or working to establish intimacy that leads to trust. ?People are much smarter than we give them credit for.? As leaders, give them something to focus on using proper and honest communication as the key.? Do not allow communication to become your team’s lock. ?
