Communication in Business can Facilitate Long-term Success

We've all experienced those moments in our careers where we have no idea what our boss is asking us to do!

They've explained it, or so they think and leave us to get on with it……but we still feel none the wiser about what we're meant to be doing.

And it all comes down to communication.

As leaders, we must learn to communicate effectively with everyone - our teams, customers and partners.

Why? Because effective business communication leads to successful businesses in the long-term.

As business professionals, we often overlook the importance of communication. And we sometimes forget what is actually at the heart of good communication.

You see, effective business communication isn't just about talking.

It's about all the other ways we communicate as humans - such as our eye contact, body language and energy we bring to our business and activities.

Crucially, most business leaders forget that communication is also about asking and listening.

?

As leaders and entrepreneurs, we are in a great position - we have a vision. We know where we're headed.

?

But unless we can effectively communicate that to those on the journey with us and receive communication back from them, reaching our destination will become much more challenging.

It's like trying to speak to someone with a patchy phone signal - we pick up parts of what they're saying but not enough to make sense.

?

Without clear lines of communication, our business can't thrive.

?

Test your business communication skills

Here's a wee test - if you left your team to manage your business for a month without input, would they know exactly what they were doing daily?

  • Would they do it?
  • And would they be able to communicate the vision of the business to others?

?

If the answer is no, your job is probably more challenging than it needs to be.

?

Because once we master the art of communication within our businesses, things flow a lot more smoothly, there are fewer bumps in the road, and we have more time and energy to focus on growing our business over the long term instead of dealing with the day-to-day challenges.

So, communication is critical. We all know it, but we don't always prioritise it or take the time to work on our communication skills.
