Communicating effectively to be understood

Coach K, the legendary figure in Duke University coaching, emphasizes the importance of never assuming that the person you've communicated with comprehends your message entirely. He advises against assuming understanding until there is concrete evidence that the message has not only been received but ideally, acted upon.
In the most recent episode of our Corporate Competitor Podcast, Coach K points out that leaders often allow themselves to succumb to busyness, leading to quick communication without ensuring that their team has truly grasped the message. According to him, sending a message isn't enough; the responsibility lies with the communicator to verify that the message was heard and understood as intended.
