Communicate Well to Lead

I recently read this topic on Communicate Well to Lead in the book, “???????????????????? ???????????????? ?????? ???????? ????????” by John C Maxwell and found these points very useful as we lead our people.

John W. Gardner once said that, “If I had to name a single all-purpose instrument of leadership, it would be communication.”

I think this couldn’t be more true, as everything rise and fall on leadership, but what exactly is leadership? Its about communicating the vision to people and getting things done. 

3 standards mentioned here to live by are:

???? ???????????????????? - A leader who says different things and keeps changing his mind will make his team feeling very insecure and confused. 

???? ??????????- A lot of time we assume they know, but results may show otherwise. It’s better to be simple and ensuring they know exactly what is to be done.

???? ?????????????????? - Everyone deserved to be shown respect no matter what position they are. 

The success of our relationship with people all depend greatly on communications, whether its our spouse, co-workers or clients.  

Here are the 4 truth to follow if we want to be more effective in communications:

1. ???????????????? ???????? ?????????????? - Forget about impressing people. To connect with people, keep it simple.
2. ?????? ?????? ???????????? - Always ask ourselves “who is my audience?”, “”What are their needs?”
3. ???????? ?????? ?????????? - Action speaks louder than words.
4. ???????? ?? ???????????????? - Don’t forget the goal of all communication is Action. Give people something to feel, remember or to work on. 

In my 19 years of working as an entrepreneur building teams from scratch, I can’t agree more with what John Maxwell said about “Leaders touch a heart before they ask for a hand”.  

A leader must connect with individuals and not just in groups only. The stronger the relationship and connection between individuals, the more likely the follower will help the leader. And a successful leader always initiate, taking the first step to build relationship.

It’s so easy when we are elevated to a certain level of leadership role that we forgot to connect & reach out to those who may be of a lower position. At their level, most times they will never think to initiate the connection with us. So it is really important if we want to get more things done, start thinking about how communication flow among our team and be the initiator ourselves to reach out first.
