Comms single-tasking & groundhog day

Comms single-tasking & groundhog day

Hi creative comms pro,?

A reminder.

Many comms people deal with more reactive stuff than they want. Proactive, planned comms sometimes feels like a luxury (or a dream!).

Most of us are creative people in jobs where we often feel?we just have to get stuff done adequately before we move on.

Don't beat yourself up.

Don't compare yourself with a perfect version in your head that can never exist.

Pick one thing you want to improve and make some progress.

I bet your work is a lot better than you think.

Comms Creatives Content of the Week

CCCotW comes from the National Park Service's Instagram post on Groundhog Day.

Instagram posyt shoes screenshot of tweet interaction. National Park Sertvice: "You know it's cold outside when you go outside and it's cold. SOmeone replies: "who is running this account ??". National Partk Service reply with a photo of a cute groundhog looking at a computer screen typing away at a desk

They’ve shared a funny interaction by screenshotting a tweet, and it shows that what works on one social media channel can work on another.

I'm a huge fan of their social media strategy.

This post feels like it’s been written by your funny corny uncle that always makes you laugh and groan.

NPS have built up a huge following because they use humour, and this is a great example of what is quite a serious publicly funded organisation, having a positive moment of fun and cheering their audience up.

People are doom scrolling, so making someone smile goes a long way to build your brand’s reputation and attract new and loyal audiences.

Comms tip: Conversation can be content?

Don’t be afraid to screenshot and share a the best?interactions you have across different?channels.

If it made you smile in the comms team, it might just be content. Oh, and this applies to internal comms channels as well as social media. Show your audience that you’re a brand capable of having light hearted, positive interactions - and make the most of them by turning them into content gold! ?

Comms poll of the week

Answer a 5 second question! Next Thursday (February 22) is Single-Tasking Day. People of comms - do we even understand the concept?!? I do my best work when I truly focus, but I have to MAKE myself switch out of multi-tasking mode.

Poll of the week: 1 Are you a single-tasker? Do you pride yourself on giving your undivided attention to one thing at a time? Or are you a dab hand at multitasking, seamlessly handling emails, apps, meetings, writing and chatting with your colleagues at once? A Always single-tasking, I am! One thing at a time, that's my jam. B Mostly single-tasking, but occasionally I juggle a few balls. C It's a mixed bag for me—I balance single-tasking and multitasking equally. D Mostly multitasking, though I try to focus when necessary. E Pure multitasking wizardry here; I've got all the tricks up my sleeve. Submit

Last week's poll results shows that all of us dream of extra time to have a nice lounge.? Don't forget, rest is not a luxury, it's a necessity for life!

IF you were going to take a sick (not sick) day - what would you use it for? 87 out of 89 answered Hide question Nothing, just sit around lounging 43 resp. 49.4% Catch up on household chores 22 resp. 25.3% Go for a nice day out 17 resp. 19.5% Do some work in peace 4 resp. 4.6% Other 1 resp. 1.1%

Copywriting tips ???

Our copywriting course ?last week fell on the same week as National Pizza Day. Coincidence? Well, yes, actually. But it was a good excuse to share this again.

 1. Use the active voice. Jane will buy the pizza. Not: The pizza will be bought. 2 Use words that resonate. Can I help you eat your pizza? Not: Can I assist with consuming your circinate entree? 3 Use verbs, not abstract nouns. Let's start eating the pizza. Not: Pizza consumption commencement 4 Keep things close by how you point at them. Do you like the smell of this pizza? Not: Do any of you like the smell of that pizza? 5. Put one thought in each sentence. I love you. Let's go for a pizza. Not: I love you and let's go for a pizza. 6 Cut out waffle You need to order your pizzza by 10pm. Not: The important thing to remember is that you need to order your pizza by 10pm or earlier. 7 Put ideas in a logical order. If you scoff all those pizzas you'll be sick. Not: You'll be sick if you scoff all those pizzas. 8 Translate jargon. Do you want pepperoni and mushrooms on your pizza? Not: You want flyers and fungus on your pizza?"

Here's?a list of potential fresh beginnings:

Got a lovely job you'd like us to consider for inclusion in the weekly roundup? D rop us a message on Linkedin , or post it into our Facebook group .

Oh, and did I mention: I'm off to Australia next?week to meet the comms community in Sydney.?

What I love about our community and our Academy?members in the UK, Europe,?and across the world - is we have so many perspectives and cool?things to learn from each other.

We also have a lot in common (e.g. a love of nice notepads, a hatred of jargon, and none of us work in perfect environments with all the resources and budget we would like.)

We'll be welcoming a lot more lovely Aussie comms pros to our courses, and I promise to share anything interesting that I learn.

Have a lovely week comms friends,

Hel
