CommonSpirit Health Announces that Employees Must be Vaccinated for COVID-19

As health care providers we have a responsibility to help end the COVID-19 pandemic and our mission calls us to protect our patients, our colleagues, and the most vulnerable in our communities.?

Unfortunately, COVID-19 cases are on the rise again due to the threat of variants, and many communities continue to have low vaccination rates.

An abundance of evidence shows that the vaccines are safe and highly effective in preventing serious illness, hospitalization and death from COVID-19.

That’s why CommonSpirit Health is requiring all employees in our 140 hospitals and more than 1,000 care sites and facilities across 21 states to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. While the implementation date of this requirement will vary by region due to local and state regulations and conditions, all CommonSpirit employees must be vaccinated by November 1. There will be an accommodation for medical or religious exemptions.

We join health systems and associations across the country in supporting vaccination for health care workers in an effort to continue protecting our patients, staff and communities from this dangerous disease.

Throughout the pandemic we have made data-driven decisions grounded in what will help us best fulfill our healing mission, and requiring vaccinations for our teams is critical to maintaining a safe care environment.?

At CommonSpirit our vision is purposeful. “A healthier future for all - inspired by faith, driven by innovation, and powered by our humanity.”?

During times like these, it’s so important that we keep our faith and remain grateful for the innovation that developed these safe and effective vaccines to help heal our world. It’s now up to each of us to do our part and get vaccinated so we can build a healthier future. To do so, we will need the healing power of humankindness more than ever. I can think of no better way to achieve this than to get vaccinated to protect ourselves, our loved ones and our communities.

Where is the U.S. healthcare industry going? How will my organization succeed? If you're a healthcare executive asking those questions, we should talk.
