Commons: your team's place to talk.

Commons: your team's place to talk.

Our mission is to make work feel more connected. How do we do that?

First, we're creating a your team's place to talk.

Why is this important?

  1. Teams that communicate well perform well. It’s intuitive and backed by research: the higher the frequency and quality of communication, the better the execution.
  2. Talking is 7X more efficient than typing. By our own measurements, using Commons to talk to 2+ people is at least 10X faster than typing, or typing + starting a Zoom. This can add up to many hours per week saved for small teams.
  3. Small talk is big talk. Impromptu conversations spark creativity. They're also vital for culture development. We get to know our teammates via lots of spontaneous and free-flowing conversations over time.
  4. Don't let your screen box you in. In our WFH experiment, there hasn’t been a way for remote teams to talk like we do in real life. What if, back in the office, each time you wanted to talk to someone you had to 1) ask for permission, 2) wait for a response, 3) decide a tool to use, 4) Make the call or send the link, 5) wait an answer (if call) or open the Zoom, 6) then talk! At best, the communication tools for remote teams are an inferior substitute for how we communicate in real life. At worst, they leave us feeling isolated and work feeling transactional.
  5. Friction creates barriers. Any friction in communication gets magnified continuously across time and people. Friction also eliminates the possibility of serendipity. The result is fewer casual interactions, and more formal meetings.
  6. Reducing friction unlocks doors. Making it easier to talk to your team can enable interactions that wouldn’t happen otherwise. It also makes communication more fun and natural -- just like it is in real life. This has a culture and company-defining impact on work:
Problems are resolved faster
Questions are anticipated
Meetings go from by default to on demand
The team feels more in sync

We can't wait to see you experience what it feels like to be connected to your team again, even while working from home.
