Following are some of the most commonly used server types in the IT industry;

Web Servers:?Web servers are generally used for hosting websites and serving web content to users over the internet. These servers handle HTTP requests and serve static content, like HTML pages, images, CSS, and JavaScript files. Examples include Apache HTTP Server, Nginx, .Apache HTTP Server and Nginx, Microsoft IIS, and Lite-Speed are few popular examples.

Application Servers:These servers is used to handle the execution of web applications and business logic. They often connect with databases and other backend services. Examples include Apache Tomcat, WildFly, IBM WebSphere, Microsoft ASP.NET and Microsoft IIS.

Database Servers:?These servers manage and store data for various applications. They handle database queries and transactions. Examples include MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle Database, Microsoft SQL Server, and MongoDB

Mail Servers: These servers are used for managing and distributing emails. They generally used protocols like SMTP, IMAP, and POP3. Examples include Microsoft Exchange Server, Postfix, Send-mail, and Exim.

File Servers:?File servers store and manage files for users within a network. They facilitate file sharing and access control. Examples include Windows File Server, Linux Server and NFS

Proxy Servers:?These servers act as intermediaries between clients and other servers, providing additional security, caching, or load balancing features. Examples include Nginx, HAProxy, and Squid.

DNS Servers:?These servers handle domain name resolution and mapping domain names to IP addresses. Examples include BIND, Power-DNS and Microsoft DNS Server.

Origin web server: An origin server, also known as an origin web server, is a fundamental concept in web hosting and content delivery.

When a user requests a web resource, such as opening a website or accessing a file, their web browser sends a request to the origin server. The origin server processes the request, retrieves the requested resource from its local storage, and then sends the resource back to the user's browser, which displays the content to the user.
