Common Social Media Marketing Mistakes to Avoid

Internet is completely shaping the way we communicate and do business through Social Media Marketing, which seems to be the latest buzz word for anyone looking to increase their online presence and sales. SMM services are relatively vital and important for businesses to figure out ways to respond to these evolving customer relationships in order to capture these markets and opportunities.

Today many Social media marketing companies are successful in implementing the social media strategies according to the current trends in order to engage clients with expanded brand recognition. Most people, in general know how social media platforms work, however only few have a comprehensive understanding about the types of mistakes that creep into. The Following are some of the common simple social media marketing mistakes to avoid, which can help to grow your online business faster than any other means.

Don’t dismiss Social Marketing:

Communication is key when dealing with your customers. Often times your customers are too busy, but that is when Social Media can save the day. A tweet about your products and services or a Facebook post making a helpful suggestion can keep your name in front of the customer and show them that you are thinking of them and their business. Social Media's strength is in relationship building and taking the soft sell, top of mind approach.

Can’t jump in to Social Media without a proper plan:

Today, too many people jump into social media without a proper plan and testing their participation first. Just like you would with more traditional marketing programs it is important to do your homework first. Determine your objectives and have a plan/road map. Have you thought about benchmarking first what your competition is doing?

Don’t be misled by Social media vanity metrics:

If you don't find a way to measure the impact your social media campaign is having, how do you even know it's working? You may see an increase in followers and "likes" but how do you know that it's really making a difference? You need to know that your followers are actually listening to what you're saying, checking out the products your pitching, and looking into the services you offer. Find a system that works for you. You can measure the number of sales that result from referrals, how many visitors you have, and coupons used. Find what’s working and go after it. If something needs tweaking, you'll find out what it is by analysing your results. Don’t fall in the trap of vanity metrics when measuring the key performance indicators for your social media marketing.

Not leveraging social media properly:

It is probably the biggest mistake. Many companies and business owners use social media, which means that they invest time, energy, and money. But they don't know how to turn that investment into a profit. They don't leverage the power they have the potential to unleash with their investment.

Don’t ignore your Social customers:

Don't make the mistake of ignoring people. Social media is fundamentally social. That's why it's a good idea to make sure that when people follow you, you follow them back. When they comment on something you've written, comment back. Engaging with people can create loyalty, though a lot of businesses make this mistake.

Don’t get in to Social media just to talk only about your company:

Do not self-promote yourself, when you send someone that telling them that you became a fan of yourself, it is just like you are relaying a message and telling them "hey watch out and read the testimonials I made for myself". The brilliant idea to do is to use your Facebook fan page in posting information about the particular market that you are serving.

Don’t automate on all your Social Media posts:

It is common for businesses to schedule their posts using automation software. While this may save you time it is not the best route to take. It is important that you choose one or two websites to personally post on. This will give your messages a more authentic and original tone. Your followers will notice if the posts are all the same and they will likely lose interest and stop engaging on your pages.

Don’t use too many Social accounts to manage your online presence:

Today many businesses are doing the same mistake by creating multiple social accounts to enhance the presence of their online business in the niche social market. According to my opinion, it is enough to have a one original social media account to promote your business with effective marketing strategies instead of having 2 or 4. Please try to choose the one strategic account to engage in, which may also produce great results with more profits.

Don’t leave your brand to embarrassment; try to create your own Social media policy:

Not having a published corporate Social Media employee policy can hurt your brand. More than 40% of companies do not have one. Without a corporate policy on how employees can participate, you may be inhibiting employees who are active in social media from being positive brand ambassadors and spreading the good news about your company. In addition, without a corporate policy, you may also be at risk from employees who are posting inappropriate comments/content on social sites.

Conclusion:

There are plenty of ways when it comes to social media marketing, ways to get it right and wrong. These little tips mentioned above will hopefully help you to think through your social media tactics. Generally, these social media mistakes will serve as your guide in your recent and future social media marketing.
