Common myths and misconceptions about Pinterest marketing

Common myths and misconceptions about Pinterest marketing

Let’s bust some of the most common myths and misconceptions about Pinterest marketing today. Also, think of the following list as Pinterest marketing mistakes to avoid. Here we go:

Pinterest is just another social media platform.

NOPE! Even though Pinterest has community guidelines to make it friendly and safe, it is actually a visual search engine, that’s why Keywords for SEO are so important.

You can also read this post to see how Pinterest is different from social media platforms in more detail.

Someone told you that you have to pin a lot.

A client said this to me when we had our discovery call and I told her: Nope, Ideally you want to be pinning one pin a day consistently but I’ve also had clients who stick to 15 pins per month and still get great results.

Pinterest is hard to understand.

I get it. Pinterest was once hard for me to understand too and on top of that, it’s an ever-changing platform but let me just tell you this: as long as you use keywords, stay consistent and pin fresh new content, you’re good!

Repinning your own content over and over is the way to get more views to your account.

Wrong! I really don’t know about other platforms but at least for Pinterest, if you keep posting the same images and text over and over you could be flagged as spammy and sometimes accounts never recover their reach from this.

If you want to have a higher reach and more engagements simply use SEO and stay consistent, IT PAYS OFF!! ‘Cause guess what? Your content is gonna be there forever and something you pinned years ago will keep getting a big bunch of traffic to your site.

Connecting your social media to Pinterest is enough.

I’m afraid not. This feature can be useful to “fill the blank spaces” and make the “created” section in your profile look somehow abundant but the truth is this content looks like a tiny square that goes nowhere because most of the time, your social media posts are not properly optimized for Pinterest.

I don’t want to discourage you from using it, but as much as possible, go back and optimize those things (images or videos) with keywords so Pinterest knows where to put your content. SEO is extremely important.

You need to pay for schedulers.

Not in my freaking watch!

You guys, utilize the Pinterest native scheduler. It doesn’t just save you money, it’s also preventing you from using third-party software that might not be approved by Pinterest (not all schedulers out there are).

When you are creating a pin, you have the option to “Publish now” or “Publish at a later date” and that’s how you schedule your content FOR FREE. Check out this post for reference.

You need to have a ton of content before getting on Pinterest.

You can turn posts into infographics, repurpose content that you already have, create different pin designs linked to the same post or lead magnet…

If you need some content ideas and you’re wondering how to take your already existing content to Pinterest, read this post with 10 pieces of content that you can repurpose on Pinterest (for FREE).

Having thousands of views is enough.

Have you seen those accounts with a ton of monthly views?

Having views isn’t a bad thing but it doesn’t necessarily mean users are actually engaging with your content, so create the type of content that people want to save to their Pinterest boards.

Creating pins and pinning (posting) takes a lot of time.

Not really, for pin designs, we have access to templates with Canva and online stores in Etsy or Creative Market for example… there are also memberships online that provide you with a bunch of customizable templates.

And sometimes content repurposing can take a few minutes more but hey, if you really reaaaally don’t have the time, save yourself the struggle and hire someone like me to do that for you!

You need to pay for schedulers. Not in my freaking watch! LOL I love your style.. I think I knew most of this... but some of your insights are deeper... like having thousands of views is not enough... Hmm..
