Common Myths About Miscarriage ??

Common Myths About Miscarriage ??

According to the NIH , an estimated 26% of all pregnancies end in miscarriage, and 80% of miscarriages occur during the first trimester.

While certain medical conditions can contribute to the overall risk of pregnancy loss, it's important to know that your miscarriage is — unequivocally — not your fault, and you are not alone in it (roughly 1 in 10 women will experience a miscarriage in their lifetime).?

Myth #1: You caused your miscarriage.

While a miscarriage may have happened to you, it certainly did not happen because of you. In fact, the most common cause (>50%) of first-trimester pregnancy loss is chromosomal abnormalities in the embryo.?

This means there were either too many or too few chromosomes in the developing embryo, most often due to random errors as the embryo began to grow and divide — not because of you or your partner.

Myth #2: Having one miscarriage means you're bound to have another.

Pregnancy after loss can be anxiety-provoking, but the good news is only 1-2% of women will experience recurrent miscarriage, defined as having two or more pregnancy losses.

So, if you've suffered a miscarriage, chances are high that you'll go on to have a healthy subsequent pregnancy.

Myth #3: Miscarriages are always accompanied by intense pain and heavy bleeding.

While most miscarriages involve some degree of cramping and pain, this varies drastically from person to person. Some women will experience intense pain, while others will have very light cramps (or no warning signs at all).?

According to an article published in American Academy of Family Physicians , 1 in 4 pregnant people will experience bleeding during their first trimester, but only about 1/2 of those cases will result in a miscarriage.

Remember: You know your body better than anyone else, so if you suspect something is 'off,' please don't hesitate to consult with a healthcare provider.?
