Common Mistakes that Presenters do.

Common Mistakes that Presenters do.

In my experience of twenty one years as a trainer & presenter, I’ve found that most mistakes that speakers/ presenters do can be categorised into three board areas:

  1. Body language mistakes
  2. Voice mistakes
  3. and Word Usage mistakes.

Read on and check if you are doing any of these mistakes.

Body language Mistakes

  1. The ‘statue’ : This person is rooted to the spot, standing to attention like a soldier; arms on the side. He/ she speaks with almost no hand movement. make me wonder if he has paralysis in the arms!
  2. Below the belt : No this is not what you think. This person makes most of his hand movements below the waist level. its almost invisible. When you use your hands below the belt, you come across as an unsure, timid presenter.
  3. The Cowboy/ Gunslinger: Ever seen a presenter with his hands on his hips? The Gunslinger sometimes has his hands on his hips or hooked to the belt. Its like a gunslinger from the Wild West ready to shoot you! His/her aggressiveness is a sure shot put off.
  4. The Hungry Lion: This person is the opposite of the Statue. He is pacing around too much, that it can be quite distracting. He’s like a hungry lion in a cage waiting to be fed.
  5. Mr.Busy Hands: This person is doing something distracting with his/ her hands. Wringing them, cracking knuckles, clicking a pen, chewing his nails, hands in the pocket etc. This is a sure sign of nervousness.
  6. The Crane’: This person is standing on one leg, literally! He / she keeps the other leg bent behind the standing leg. Im afraid when the person will fall off!.

There are a lot more body language mistakes; like the ‘ deer in the headlights’, ‘the coconut tree’, ‘the rocking horse’ and more.  Are you sure you are not doing any one of them? Because it can cost you BIG TIME.
