Common Knee Surgeries and How KneeMD Can Help

Knee surgeries are becoming more and more common for Americans, especially American seniors. Every patient and physician should have access to everything they need for a successful operation and a successful outcome. At Medkinect we believe in personalized medicine and understanding the facts. With the high number of baby boomers out there, there are more knees to be operated on. Surgery and the recovery process can be tough, which is why it is important to have the proper care post-op.

Common Types of Knee Surgeries

ACL Reconstruction

The ACL is one of the 4 main tendons of the knee and it connects your femur to your tibia. When the ACL is torn, patients will often feel as if their knee will give out from under them. Many people choose to have ACL reconstruction to combat this problem.

Partial Knee Replacement

A partial knee replacement occurs when there is damage to only a small portion of the knee’s cartilage. In some cases, it is possible to replace only the worn-out portion of the joint, thus avoiding complete knee replacement.

Knee Replacement

When knee replacement surgery is performed, the bone and cartilage on the ends of the tibia and the femur are removed. A metal and plastic implant is placed to serve as a new joint. In some cases, the knee cap itself is also replaced.

Meniscus Surgery

Meniscus surgery is performed to remove or repair damaged cartilage when the meniscus is torn. If the damage is more severe, a patient may receive a meniscectomy in which a portion of the meniscus cartilage is removed from the knee joint.

How Knee MD Will Help

KneeMD is a simple, versatile, and portable solution that can help people both before and after surgery. The device is designed to help patients execute a number of stretches a physical therapist would use during the rehabilitation process. These stretches will help minimize pain and help people to get back on their feet more quickly. Patients can use it at anytime, anywhere, without having to make an appointment.

Before Surgery

KneeMD can help you post-op, but it can also help you to prepare for surgery. We always encourage our patients to watch their diet, strengthen, and stretch. Doing these things before going under the knife will put you on track for a faster rehabilitation process.

If a patient has a KneeMD and uses it pre-surgery as directed by their physician, research shows that that patient is less likely to have a contracture post-surgery. Developing proper flexion/extension in the surgical knee prior to surgery, creates better outcomes for the patient.

After Surgery

After surgery, KneeMD can help you regain range of motion and strength. The device allows patients to stretch and rotate their knees on their own, without the need of a therapist of having to leave the comfort of their own home. The design is simple and the product easy to use. KneeMD puts patients in control of their rehabilitation because of its ease and convenience.
