Common Errors in CVs
I have reviewed around 7-8 CVs so far of fresh graduates of Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology., mostly of Computer Engineers, there are few mistakes in common which I want to share with everyone:
? Career Objective is not clear.
? Areas of Interest are not mentioned. Every respective field is so vast, where exactly do you want to work?
? Single line statement for Final year project. This is your USP - Provide more details about it. If possible upload your project presentation with pictures at scribd/slideshare and put its link in the CV.
? In competencies, writing only the name of softwares and languages is not enough, you need to define either you have beginner knowledge in it or professional.
? If you know how to operate a PC, use internet or Ms Office – these are no longer any skills that provide competitive advantage. Employer would know your MS Word skills by the layout and structure of your CV. Even the primary children of this generation know all these things.
? Please don’t use lovelyboy92 or imaprincess type email addresses. Kindly make professional email ids.
? Don’t put filenames like “CV”, “Final CV”, “Name only”… you need to write like for e.g “Asif Computer Engr CV”.. how will the employer find your CV with 100s of other CVs? Or if he/she will save your CV with a common name like Final CV, it will be replaced due to similar names of other CVs.
? There is a grammar and spell check option in Ms. Word, kindly use that.
? As a student you don’t have Professional experience to write about, but you have to mention about your Intern-ships, Major Semester projects and details about your final year project. Don’t leave these things.
