Common Causes of Thrust Roller Failures

Common Causes of Thrust Roller Failures

At NAK, we prioritize finding the root cause of common kiln failures and utilizing preventative maintenance measures to help prevent unexpected equipment downtime.

Here are some common causes of thrust roller failures and steps you can take to avoid this issue:

  • Lack of lubrication

  • Improper offset to centerline of tire – Thrust roller should be offset 1/16 – 1/8” toward the down turning side of the centerline.? Otherwise, the kiln tire will pick up the thrust roller.

  • Excessive Thrust – The axial thrust of the kiln should be adjusted to “float” the kiln.? The kiln drive tire should make intermittent contact with the thrust rollers.? Excessive axial thrust could result in constant contact with a thrust roller.? This could lead to premature wear or even failure.
