Commoditization of the Cloud

It is important for IT consulting firms to realize that the cloud itself is getting more and more commoditized. Technology and services (e.g. analytics, databases, etc.) providers must realize that being pinned down to a single cloud platform is going to be restrictive in its adoption by its very nature.

If you have a true differentiator, lets say a very insightful predictive model, then think of making it available on multiple cloud platforms and do not design it in such a way that it only runs on one of the three majors! To achieve this, you do not need to think about hybrid clouds; it is much simpler .. just make your 'differentiator application' portable onto multiple cloud provider!

Let the client embrace the cloud they like and want; you focus on providing your differentiator application!
