Committed!
Last Friday I presented our seminar on Situational Awareness to a group of highly skilled constructors; a company with more than 80 years of excavation experience in upstate New York. A company committed to coming along side us to help achieve our damage prevention goals.
Keeler Construction broke ground with field tile excavation in 1942 and continues to build a local legacy in the construction industry with major projects from bridge and drainage work, to complete road reconstruction projects. A lot has changed over the last 80 years in excavation; especially with how much is in the ground and the NY Code Rule Law which was enacted in 1997 to ensure safe excavation was practiced and to help mitigate damages.
With the amount of work the Keeler company is doing in on and around public utilities, they thought it would be best to recommit their training and safety to include damage prevention, and we couldn't agree more!
When we can come together on common ground, then communication & education will drive change & change can and will achieves goals. If I am going to talk the talk, I need to walk the walk; I need to lead by example. I can't expect to talk all day long about damage prevention, sharing statistics and Power Bi data, and expect contactors to buy into what I spew from my office. I am committed to being in the field, training and encouraging, promoting class room teaching and speaking engagements. That is how we create relationships, working together to achieve each others goals. I want to build a better damage prevention program, and when we have companies like the Keeler team in the forefront of the industry, setting standards for excellence in safety with damage prevention it can only get better.

In the short amount of time we had to go over the rules and regulations, the do's and don'ts, the situational awareness and the many questions that were asked and answered, from calling in tickets to DPS fines and delayed tickets; one common goal was achieved, the commitment to do everything in their power to prevent damage to public utilities.
22 people committed to our Excellence In Safety on Friday and the Keeler team is the first company to receive the coveted damage prevention challenge coin. I am elated that Keeler has recommitted themselves to damage prevention and I will continue to do what I ever I can to help them succeed in their commitment.
