Committed employees share the inside view of Holmen
Having a strong employer brand is a key element to attract future employees. Of course, this goes for Holmen as well. Our employees play an important role in this as ambassadors, for example during study visits and career days.?
To increase awareness of Holmen, a variety of employer branding activities are organised every year, for anything from secondary school classes to university students.
Meet employees and get the true picture
“For example, we welcome study visits, attend career days, give guest lectures and accept interns and degree project workers,” explains Samuel Karlsson, HR partner at Holmen Paper Hallsta.?He and Anna Gundberg in Braviken organise the mills’ collaboration with schools and universities.
“It’s important that we communicate a true picture, both externally and internally, of who we are, what we do and the development opportunities we can offer. And our employees are crucial ambassadors in this respect. They can talk about what it’s like to work with us in a credible way,” says Samuel.
Many students are unaware of the career opportunities
Development engineer Lisa Sj?berg at Holmen Paper Braviken is one of the employees that students meet. She has participated in several study visits, including IGE Day (Introduce a Girl to Engineering), which gives girls aged 13-19 an insight into the life of an engineer.?
“I’m passionate about getting more girls into the industry in general and attracting them to Holmen Paper in particular. In my experience, many students are unaware of the career opportunities available in the forestry and paper industry, so we have some work to do on that score,” says Lisa Sj?berg.
She also feels that many people have an image of the industry as tough and male-dominated.?

Understand younger people's values
“The study visits play an important role in allowing our visitors to see how automated and digitalised the manufacturing process is and the different engineering roles available. For us ambassadors, it’s also rewarding to meet the younger generation and understand their values and what they think about our business,” says Lisa.
Filippa Wahlfort, production engineer on PM12 at Hallsta paper mill, has been an ambassador at several career days, both online and in person.?
“I usually attend Uppsala University’s career day for science and technology students, as I studied there myself. Meeting the students is so much fun. They ask lots of interested questions about everything from summer jobs and sustainability to what I do at work,” says Filippa Wahlfort.?
