?? Brussels Throwback @ the Ninth Cohesion Forum

Last week's panel debate at the 9th Cohesion Forum ignited discussions on the future of EU Cohesion Policy. I had the honor of sharing the stage with key figures such as Chris Fearne , Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for European Funds, Equality, Reforms and Social Dialogue of Malta; Andrés Rodríguez-Pose , Chair of the High-Level Group on the Future of Cohesion Policy; Vasco Alves Cordeiro , President of the European Committee of the Regions; Kostis Hatzidakis , Minister of Economy and Finance of Greece; and Rachel De Basso , Regional Councillor and President of the Regional Executive Board at the Region of J?nk?ping County, Sweden.?

Together, we deliberated on the importance of modernizing the Cohesion Policy in a balanced manner, ensuring fair access for all regions to the Single Market. Key issues for future focus include reducing disparities between regions, boosting skills and connectivity for competitiveness, and driving strategic investments for growth in underprivileged areas. Joining such distinguished voices in shaping the future of Europe's cohesion strategy was a thrilling experience.

?? Exploring EU Enlargement Impacts on Cohesion Policy Budget

A recent study by Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR) delves into the potential impacts of EU enlargement on Cohesion Policy budgets. This comprehensive analysis provides insights into the effects of statistical shifts, GDP caps, and more, shedding light on how Cohesion Policy funding may evolve in the face of enlargement. The study suggests that while enlargement could spike Cohesion Policy budget needs, the current allocation formula is robust enough to handle it. However, it emphasizes the importance of aligning budget allocation mechanisms with emerging economic challenges and objectives. Overall, the study underscores the necessity of a dynamic approach to Cohesion Policy funding to ensure its continued effectiveness amidst evolving landscapes.

?? Advancing Romania's Commitment to Cohesion Policy

Romania continues to advance towards fulfilling enabling conditions vital for Cohesion Policy success. During a recent meeting of our team and Minister Adrian Caciu with Andriana Sukova-Tosheva , DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion, as well as Maria Luisa Cabral, the new Director of Working Conditions and Social Dialogue, and Ana Maria (Dobos) Coscotin , team leader for Romania, significant progress was noted.?

Romania has diligently met most of the horizontal and thematic enabling conditions linked to PO4, emphasizing its commitment to fundamental rights and future competitiveness. Discussions also highlighted Romania's readiness to leverage innovative initiatives like STEP to enhance workforce skills and adaptability. As preparations for a mid-term review commence, Romania remains dedicated to optimizing program flexibility and aligning with EU recommendations for inclusive growth.

?? Monitoring NRRP Progress and Implementation

Weekly meetings with management authorities remain instrumental in monitoring fund absorption and project implementation status. These sessions, attended by key stakeholders, ensure effective utilization of resources towards Romania's development goals and provide avenues for addressing challenges and optimizing strategies.

As we navigate towards a cohesive, sustainable and competitive future, Romania stands poised to contribute meaningfully to European progress. Stay tuned for further updates on our journey towards inclusive growth and prosperity.

Warm regards,
