Commit All You Do to the Lord

Commit All You Do to the Lord

"Commit to the Lord whatever you do, and he will establish your plans." - Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

As believers, we must be careful of a challenging tendency: falling into separating our experiences between the sacred and the secular.

Falling into this trap leads us to regard our time at church and spiritual activities as sacred, while our work, sports, and other everyday tasks are viewed as secular. As followers of Christ, we are called to see every aspect of our lives as an opportunity to glorify God. There is no such separation.

We start to think of our time at church and spiritual activities as sacred, while our work and everyday tasks are viewed as secular. As followers of Christ, we are called to see every aspect of our lives as an opportunity to glorify God. There is no such separation.

When we commit all we do, all we work on, and all we enjoy to the Lord, we acknowledge His sovereignty over every area of our lives. We can live life with the mindset of serving the Lord in every task, no matter how insignificant it may seem.

Jesus compared His disciples to salt and light in the world (Matthew 5:13-16). Salt adds flavor and preserves, while light illuminates darkness. We are called to add the flavor and shine the light of Christ in every interaction.

Jesus also illustrated this unity of purpose with the parable of the lamp. He said, "No one lights a lamp and then hides it under a basket or a bed. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where its light can be seen by all who enter the house" (Luke 8:16, NLT). We are called to shine the light of Jesus in every area of our lives. Hiding this light under the 'bed' of our perceived secular activities contradicts our purpose as His followers.

God has placed each of us in our respective spheres of influence, for a special purpose. His redemptive purpose for the world. Our lives are living testimonies of God's grace at work in us.

Power of 4 Discussion Question:
