Commissison a Portrait

Artist Avril Thomas (in South Australia) at Magpie Springs is available to paint an original custom-made oil painting (or a drawing) of you, your loved ones, or for a formal corporate portrait. These works are archival - the lasting treasure.

To discover the ideal vision for your Corporate or Heirloom portrait project, Avril will gather visual information for your portrait through conversation, photography and perhaps paint sketches from life. Avril prefers the work will tell a story of the subject but sometimes something simpler is required.

Gift giving – Avril finds the best and most meaningful gift, is when the subject participates with making of their portrait. These portraits are a wholly personal and collaborative adventure. Alternatively, the surprise could be an organized visit for a photography session so Avril can acquire the reference material for the one-of-a-kind, heirloom quality portrait.

Avril prefers to paint from her own photos and references, but to paint a portrait as a surprise gift, working from your own photography is sometimes possible, depending on the photo.

The elements in this painting came together as a collaboration between Jayco dealers in Australia and NZ – the subject Gerry Ryan OAM ….. he sat for it in Melbourne but did not know of the inclusions till it was unveiled in Melbourne at Jayco 40th Anniversary dinner – it was painted onsite at Magpie Springs south of Adelaide where her studio and Art Gallery are.
