Comment on the Parkland school incident.

Really sad to learn that not one but four police officers from the Broward County Sheriff's Office may have waited outside while the active shooter was killing students and educators inside the Parkland school. There is no excuse for this failure to act, but in their limited defense, it's very intimidating and challenging to confront incoming fire from an AR-15 armed only with a sidearm. For the past several months, as part of my candidacy for Sheriff, I have been saying that in addition to their sidearm, our police officers must have ready access to a weapon at least comparable to the weapon being used against them. A sidearm, even in the hands of an expert, is not a real match for the firepower of an AR-15, M-16, Uzi, or other similar weapons. And the bad guys have and will continue to have access to this type of weapons - regardless of what we may legally do to deny or restrict the access to these weapons.
