Commedia dell'Arte meets Shakespeare @ Camden Fringe!

I'm very privileged to be the UK producer for ARLECCHINO & FELICITY - ROMEO & JULIET UNCHAINED. UK premiere at Camden Fringe Festival. We're performing at the Etcetera Theatre August 5th to 8th.

I'm just back from Venice where I have been working with this wonderful company to create an unusual blend of Venetian masks, movement and music to celebrate Shakespeare and the traditions of Italy's famed Commedia dell'Arte.

Arlecchino & Felicity is Bottegavaga’s newest devised show, inspired by Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Eccentric Felicity is determined to mourn the tragic story of these star-crossed lovers. Never was there astory of more woe until Arlecchino appears – and cultures clash in a bid for the Bard. Can there be a way out of this tragedy? Only Arlecchino can tell! Commedia dell’Arte actors Vanni Carpenedo and Bettyna Andriolo bring Shakespeare’s constellation of characters to life through masks and physical story-telling.

Performed in English and Italian, this playfully inventive production appeals to speakers of either language. Why Shakespeare and Commedia? “Bottegavaga has long been fascinated with the potential synergybetween the two,” explains director Alberta Toninato. “Our new show reinvents Commedia dell’Arte for the international audience of Camden Fringe.”
