COMING TOGETHER TO FEED THOSE IN NEED

COMING TOGETHER TO FEED THOSE IN NEED

It’s heartbreaking to know that, now more than ever, we’re seeing growing numbers of those who don’t know where their next meal is coming from. In New Zealand, hunger is on the rise, with roughly half a million people experiencing the effects of food insecurity – that’s 10 percent of the population*.

Today marks World Hunger Day. A day that sheds light on the effects of food insecurity experienced by vulnerable communities across the world.

At Kellogg’s, we’re committed to fighting food insecurity but we can’t do it alone. It’s for this reason, that we’re pleased to announce our new partnership with New Zealand based, non-for-profit organisation, Eat My Lunch. As part of this partnership, we’re donating ongoing cereal and snacks to Eat My Lunch, as well as providing financial support. Thanks to the team at Eat My Lunch, we’re also exploring new Breakfast club programs for schools in New Zealand, making sure that kids who are arriving at school having not had breakfast, are starting their day with a full tummy.

Since 2017, Eat My Lunch has been operating in 76 schools across Auckland and Wellington. Its logistics model – a buy one, give one approach – has seen Eat My Lunch donate over 1.5 million lunches to Kiwi Kids over the last three years.

This new partnership further demonstrates our commitment to combatting food insecurity, by providing ongoing food donations to Eat My Lunch, making sure that Kiwi kids have access to food throughout the day and are not going hungry. It will help us take another step towards our mutual goal – to prevent children from going to school with hungry tummies and to make sure that they have the energy to get the best out of their day.

Food is a basic human need. We believe that no child should go hungry, and no one should wake up to an empty bowl. It’s for this reason that, we’re continuing to focus on supporting Aussies and Kiwis in need, by providing a more sustainable and responsible value chain for the future.

Working with Eat My Lunch extends Kellogg’s existing food relief program in New Zealand with the City Missions, to provide support to vulnerable communities. This also delivers on our commitment to create better days for 3 billion people, globally, by the end of 2030 – a commitment made as part of our global platform, Better Days.

Recently, Kellogg’s provided an immediate food donation of 215,000 serves in cereal and snacks to Food Bank and OzHarvest in Australia and to the City Missions in New Zealand to help combat the increasing food insecurity experienced as a result of the global pandemic. This donation was in addition to the company’s 3+ million serves of food it donates annually, across multiple charities and breakfast giving programmes.

As of next month, we’re pleased that we’ll also be adding Morningstar Farms foods as part of our regular food donations to the NZ City Missions.

It must be said, that we’re living in incredibly uncertain times and facing unforeseen challenges. For those in need, this can only mean increased vulnerability. We recognise this and will be doing whatever we can to help.

The act of giving is a fundamental value at Kellogg and has been since the creation of our first bowl of cereal. As we navigate through these times, the least we can do is lend a helping hand to our friends who need it most. I’m incredibly proud to work for a company that truly cares about making a positive impact wherever it can.
