COMING MAY 2020!
2020 is a pivotal year for business. Change, innovation and tech are driving the industry forward.
Every year, the World Health Organization (WHO) identifies the top 10 threats to global health. In 2019, this included environmental and social issues such as climate change and vaccine hesitancy, as well as anti-microbial resistance, dengue, Ebola and other high-threat pathogens, HIV and noncommunicable diseases (e.g. diabetes, cancer, heart disease). While some of these are clearly receiving a huge amount of attention in terms of pharma industry R&D (e.g. it’s going to be a boom year for oncology) there is a worrying lack of investment in other areas, the most obvious of those being anti-microbial resistance, which is seeing more than one pharma giant cease R&D in this area due to it being a ‘difficult’ area with limited financial return.
Dr Sarah Harding, Editorial Director proposed that rather than walking away from ‘difficult’ programmes (e.g. antibiotics), perhaps the most socially responsible action that the pharmaceutical industry can take is to make sure that some investment is made to tackle these challenges. Now, some companies are already doing this with malaria programmes. And so, the pharmaceutical research in an area of need that demonstrates a responsibility to society’s needs deserves to be recognised, celebrated and shared.
That’s why Chemicals Knowledge is partnering with CPhI north america for the launch of the ETHICAL INNOVATION AWARD 2020 – to bring together the best of the best in the pharmaceutical industry. A unique opportunity to bring teams and clients together for an exceptional networking opportunity.
The Ethical Innovation Award will be taking place during CPhI north america, May 5-7, 2020 Philadelphia.
