Coming to Him to Be Saved

I had a comment battle on a social media platform not too long ago, I did not realize it was a battle to start with as I did not know the guy was trying to troll me, but never the less I thought he had genuine questions about coming to know Christ. He asked the question, "if salvation is free, why do I have to do so much for it?" He went on to say, "if it is free, and I cannot earn it, why do I have to come to Him?" This is not the first time I heard these questions, so I thought I would write a bit it and what has been going through my head since I read these comments.

Many years ago, I was a mechanic; I worked at a shop and everything. When I left that field, I decided that if someone was in need and I could I would still work on their cars because I know that the cost of repairs can be high. To put it bluntly, I would work on their vehicle for free, and all I would ask is that they bring the car to me to work on so I would have all my tools. Never in all the time, I have been doing this has someone asked me, "If you are doing this for free, why do I have to come to you?" You know why? Because they are getting hundreds if not sometimes thousands of dollars of repairs done for free, and they know it, so driving a couple of minutes is worth it, and they are excited to do it. 

Our faith is the same, Christ came down to earth and was the Ultimate sacrifice for us, so that we can have a relationship with Him, and paid the price for our sins, and all we have to do is go to Him. It is not doing something to earn it, He is waiting for us to come, and when we do, He "Fixes" the problem that is sin in our lives. The action of coming to Christ does not save us, just as just bringing a car to my house did not fix their car, I had to repair it, with Christ, the resulting gift that can not be earned is what saves us, we have to come to Him that can save us.
