Coming to America

Given that we're coming up on the year 2020, and 20-20 is how hindsight is defined, I thought it'd be fitting to take a look back at the last twenty years. Twenty years is how long I've been in the US, so my recollections would take me right to the cusp of my transition from India to America as a hapless, wet-behind-the-ears immigrant (or, as the United States bureaucracy calls us, resident alien).

Shortly after reaching the US, I had written up a short account of that journey, only to have it destroyed in a fiery server crash. For the twentieth anniversary of that trip, I decided to write that chronicle all over again. It turned into a merry jaunt through memory, reliving the journey, the sense of disorientation and the trepidation of restarting life in an alien world.

Check it out here, s'il vous pla?t: https://bit.ly/c2a99dec26 (that's just a shortlink to a Google doc -- I didn't want to stick that whole ungainly, unsightly URL here).

Glad you made it, and I look forward to the read, and your next 20.
