Leadership: Comfortably Numb
The incessant verbiage of blogs competing as they impart their perceived wisdom and self-atonement.
Is anyone listening?
The ceaseless twittering of smug one liners attempting to influence others to buy into a preconceived agenda.
Is anyone listening?
The faceless social media network sharing inane material of no consequence, but to the creator.
Is anyone listening?
The imbecilic concept of sharing self-images instead of conversation.
Is anyone listening?
The moronic texting that further isolates the symbiosis of human communication.
Is anyone listening?
Too few are taking time to listen - to unplug themselves from the cacophony that is social media, advisors and instant gratification
Disappearing is our ability to interpret body language, to detect nuances in human behaviour, to read between the lines, to analyse demeanour and decipher what isn't being said.
Just as Nero fiddled whilst Rome burned we are guilty of doing the same as we exclude and isolate those who are desperate to be heard. If we do not the consequence will be just as dire.
Meaningful inclusion through human interaction, compassion and empathy are critical to everyone's well-being.
There is also a burgeoning disconnect from those who lead.
Despite protestations to the contrary leaders occur naturally fine-tuning their skills from an early age and honing in on their niche. Leadership is nothing other than a fundamental human behaviour apparent in school, child raising, family, community, sport, socialising and industry.
Don't be fooled by the unrelenting commercial garbage that spews from the self-invested pariah, articles and businesses who berate that we can only find our Nirvana if we strive for some elusive quality. The connotation smacks of segregation and elitism - the complete opposite to the purest sense of the word.
Everyone has their own definition and rightly so - for we all take out what it is we are looking to progress in life.
Leadership is about relating to people - enlivening them to think, do and strive for self-development. This comes from following, observing, working and being in the presence of inspirational people. All of whom possess an understanding and compassion for others - an inner calm of Enlightenment that envelopes others in an embrace of benevolence and support.
However, if we continue to replace personal interaction with technology, we are in grave danger of relinquishing meaningful and interactive communities and more importantly the power to lead and to be led.
Both need to be challenged.

7 年Like but I am feeling not comfortably numb - more like uncomfortably nauseated with the repetition of endless inane crap. Your shares are worth their weight in gold by contrast.

7 年Bang on point, Dave. Love it. We must first lead ourselves, then lead together in a world that's going to be changing so fast the 'lead from the front' traditional model is simply out of date and will do more harm than good. #personalleadership #collectiveleadership #authenticity
