Comfort doesn't equal happiness!

Comfort doesn't equal happiness!

Happy Tuesday!

I am back after a 8.5 hour drive from slightly sunny Devon to sunny Essex and ready to go for the rest of the week.

But before I begin, does anyone else struggle to sleep on the first night back from a holiday? I found myself watching the speeches at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago at 3am...thankfully, they helped me doze off in the end! :)

Back to the topic of today...you may try to dodge discomfort at every turn in life, but you can't outrun it forever. So why not try to embrace it instead?

Have you ever felt regret over not taking a chance? That was your comfort zone holding you back out of fear of discomfort. Challenging yourself is one of the best ways to get comfortable with things.

Here are some techniques to help you learn how to embrace change and discomfort.

  • Learn to breathe through it. Breathing exercises can help keep you calm and collected.
  • Slowly inhale and exhale for a count of five as you focus on how the breath feels as it enters and moves through your body. This can help distract you from an uncomfortable moment.
  • View discomfort as an opportunity for growth. It can be hard to see discomfort as a positive thing, but it's a great opportunity to push yourself. You can overcome the discomfort simply by choosing to focus on the positives, what your learning, gaining, overcoming, etc.
  • Treat yourself as you would a friend. What advice would you give to a loved one if they were faced with the same challenges? Be kind and encouraging to yourself when you're going through an unfamiliar situation.

Remind yourself that comfort doesn't equal happiness. Life gets pretty boring without adventure or struggles to overcome. Having every comfort at our disposal doesn't mean we'll be happy.

Are you ready to embrace discomfort?

Have a great day in life and business!
