At Absa, we believe greatness starts with being true to yourself. One of our most powerful guiding pillars is “Come as You Are.” This isn’t just a phrase to us; it’s a philosophy and mindset for us to show up as our authentic selves every single day. Creating a workplace where individuality is celebrated, and unique strengths are valued. In my role as Sales Enablement Business Manager, I’ve seen firsthand how embracing my true self doesn’t just benefit my journey; it fuels success, builds trust, and empowers others to bring their best selves forward.
Why Bringing Your Whole Self to Work Matters
In my journey through two decades across project management, learning, sales, and change management roles, I’ve always focused on optimising processes and enabling those around me to align their work with broader goals. When I stepped into the world of sales enablement, I found that it was a space where I could merge my love for data-driven insights with my passion for people development.
In this space, where I combine the strategic with the human element, I’ve come to see the immense value in showing up as myself. Embracing my strengths of being energetic, forward-thinking, and outgoing— alongside my expertise in change management, training, and strategic planning, has given me the courage and clarity to connect deeply with both colleagues and clients. I always try to include empathy, vulnerability, and open-mindedness in each interaction, building trust that allows my relationships to flourish.
Creating an Inclusive Environment for Colleagues and Clients
At Absa, inclusivity isn’t simply a matter of policies and procedures; it’s a mindset built through active listening, open communication, and respect for each individual’s story. We do this by fostering a culture where everyone is encouraged to contribute their unique perspectives and ideas. We’ve created a space where colleagues feel seen, heard, and valued, whether in a team meeting or collaborating on a project.
When team members are encouraged to share their unique experiences and ideas, we all benefit, as our solutions are better informed and more innovative. This is why the organisation emphasises learning to trust and accept yourself completely?and?to use your voice. Because when we do, we bring our best ideas, our best energy, and our best work.
This approach extends to interactions with clients. Every client has unique needs, and by approaching their challenges with empathy and openness, we can come up with solutions that resonate on a personal and professional level. Authenticity here means creating trust, showing vulnerability when necessary, and building connections that are as authentic as they are strategic.

The Foundation of Collaboration at Absa: Authenticity, Adaptability, and Self Awareness
Authenticity and adaptability are at the core of our values at Absa. This begins with self-awareness. Understanding your strengths and limitations—and knowing how to adapt without losing sight of your values—is essential. Absa enables this through a culture of growth and learning, allowing team members the space to stay true to their values while balancing the needs of the team. No voice is left behind. Colleagues are encouraged to ask for help, delegate wisely, and share insights.
When addressing possible pain points with team members, we view the interaction as an opportunity to understand their needs more deeply. We’ve learned to ask questions that help both the organisation and the employee find the right path. It’s about aligning their journey with something that brings them fulfilment, growth, and meaning.
At Absa, adaptability doesn’t mean compromising on authenticity. It’s knowing when and how to apply core values in a flexible way?while staying true to your principles and tailoring strategies to fit the situation. It’s this adaptability, grounded in self-awareness, that strengthens our team’s collaboration and leads to success.
Your Story Matters, Here and Beyond
“Your story matters” is a transformative concept and experience for me at Absa. It’s a reminder that our individual paths are not just welcomed here—they’re celebrated. It’s the assurance that I am accepted for who I am?and that?my unique journey adds value to our collective success. This belief in the power of each person’s story makes Absa a place where we can all build a future that’s rooted in authenticity and purpose.
To paraphrase a speech I shared last year at the organisation’s leadership program graduation, there is greatness inside all of us, no doubt, but first, we must choose to be great. And we must then do the work. Because we see greatness come from a lot of small things, as long as they are done well - with a little bit of personal mastery, a bit of vulnerability, a touch of authenticity, and a sprinkle of self-awareness. When we do this one step at a time and consistently, we then reach our greatness.
So, I implore anyone who might be in a sales or business role right now or thinking of entering the industry to allow yourself to be a tool for the betterment of others within your organisation. Understand and realise how rare you are. Realise how beautiful your energy is. It is time to show the world your wonder and your uniqueness. Trust and accept yourself completely, use your voice, and never lose yourself. You are special and always worthy. Use this combination to keep Absa as great as it is with your own greatness.
