Come visit Australio! (No - that’s not a typo!!)
Imagine if a country started to dump dirt into the South Pacific, and made a big enough pile to create a small island. Or perhaps a big island.
They could then possibly call it Australio (that’s not too close to anything else already in existence, is it??). They could sell real estate on the idyllic paradise, and perhaps espouse touristic wonders - the beaches, the unique fauna (introduced, of course), and perhaps a big rock in the centre - a jewel in the crown.
Would this new land, girt by sea, take tourism from us here in Aus? Or perhaps if beauties rich and rare were found in Australio’s soils, would their mining industry become competition to our own?
Geez! I think I’m going to have to trademark “Australia” so this could never happen. Surely it would never occur that others would pass off things as our own, undermining our assets and devaluing our IP.
Or perhaps, while I’m making a trip to visit the IP lawyer, I might also take out the trademarks “China”, “India”, “USA” and “Europe”, just to get on the front foot.
Ok, all of the above is a bit of a giggle, but it’s a nice little reminder to review your brand, your IP, and your assets, to protect what you’ve worked so hard to build.
Enjoy your weekend ??
