COME ON, MAN!
Does your job…
- Positively impact people’s lives and connect technology to business results?
- Encourage innovation, risk-taking, and operational excellence?
- Challenge you to learn by being around winning and energetic people with fire in their bellies that want to make a disruptive difference and produce real business results?
That is my list of goals for my job. What is your list?
As my parents always told me, life is too short to be doing a job that you don’t enjoy. Most people hate their jobs, 70% to 85% according to one Gallup poll!

From my experience as a leader of winning engineering professionals, you should:
1. Allow employees to LEARN new skills
2. Allow employees to have autonomy to MAKE DECISIONS as part of their daily work
3. Help employees understand the PURPOSE of their jobs and how it makes a difference in the lives of their customers.
As far as the business results, if you take care of customers, everything else will take care of itself.
Dividing organizations up into small teams (10 or less) allows them to have RELATIONSHIPS and camaraderie to share ideas and know they are all in this together so they watch each other’s back and really drive the common purpose together.
Don’t feel bad if you don’t have a list of goals for your job, as most people don’t. But, COME ON, MAN, you should make a list today and start working toward transforming your job so that you skip into work every day!
