In Other News:
We are positively bursting at the seems with some very exciting, positive news, but we must remain mum for now. Stay tuned for a significant announcement within the next two weeks.
We are excited about receiving our new act'pointe shoes from act'ble GmbH in Germany in mid-April. We were thrilled that The Barnes Global Advisors, a leading national advanced manufacturing consulting firm, partnered with Confluence Ballet Co. to sponsor a pair of these new high tech, modular, 3-D printed pointe shoes for each of our dancers. We are going to put them to the test, and we're hopeful these pointe shoes will revolutionize ballet by bringing a new level of dancer comfort and safety without compromising performance or aesthetics.
Why do ballet dancers wish each other "Merde"?
To be honest, the origin is not crystal clear, nor universally agreed upon. There are a lot of theories. Merde is French for, well, poop. One of the prevailing theories is that, in the early days of ballet, patrons would arrive at the theater in horse-drawn carts. A lot of patrons would mean a lot of carts, and a lot of horses, and a lot of horse poop. Wishing a dancer a lot of poop would be wishing them a large, enthusiastic audience. There are other theories. In any case, it is customary for dancers to wish each other "merde!" before taking the stage.
As always, we invite you to:
See you on Saturday, April 29th!
Until then, Merde!
