Come on Aussie Non-Profits

Come on Aussie Non-Profits

Unfortunately, the accusations have started in Australia towards several charities post the bushfire disaster.

In private conversation, I have been saying the real test for Australian Charities will be its transparency and how it delivers to the mission during and post this natural disaster. Every third Facebook and Instagram story is a promoted post from charities looking for donations.

The Australian non-profit space has had its challenges and scandals in the past, and I can only hope that they give the transparency required and deliver to the mission. Ongoing scandals will continue to erode trust on a national and global scale. When trust is everything, this will be a litmus test for the non-profit industry in Australia. Many other non-profits are seeing a drop in donations as people direct funds to the Bushfires.

My own experience, I donated a monthly sum to adopt a Koala for my children's school in NYC. I have been trying to organize a time to go to the venue and do some photography and video to help promote this particular organization and its mission in NYC.

I am currently six emails and eight calls into the two organizations with no one returning either call or email. My software tells me when they read my emails and how many times after but still radio silence. This is eroding my confidence and trust in this organization. It saddens me overall for an industry that has to be 100% transparent. I am still researching and investigating, so stay tuned!

Come on Aussie Charities. The world wants to help, but please be 100% transparent with your donations for this disaster and help those who need the help and make sure those who donated know their contributions no matter how big or small mattered. I know it takes time to deliver but get in front and communicate and educate everyone on how you execute your mission around the bushfire donations.

Hi Dunc, hope your well. Your point is spot on! How much is being held back for “administration costs “ etc....yes there is a massive rebuild need in the future but I reckon people who have generously donated so much money worldwide did so expecting it to have an immediate impact. If there’s a seperate rebuild fund they want to do to accompany the governments 2bn fund then so be it, but let’s people choose where they want to direct their donations....for all your US followers the local animal shelters etc are a great option where you can target the spend and make a real difference NOW!
