"Every Mercedes-Benz should be recognizable as a representative of the brand all over the world.”
In the ever-developing world of car design and innovation, it is rare to find someone who leaves a long-term legacy.?
But Bruno Sacco did just that.
Bruno – who passed away in mid-September aged 90 – was Head of Design at Mercedes-Benz from 1975 until his retirement in 1999.
The Italian was part of the Mercedes-Benz family from 1958 and left his mark on our marque with some iconic designs, and was known for his classic timeless proportions, smooth surfaces and clear shapes.?
As the three-pointed star moved its focus towards aesthetics and aerodynamic efficiency in the 1970s, Bruno Sacco came into his own.
From the W126 S-Class, to its C-Class predecessor (W 201), and the later E-Class (W 124) and SL series (R 129), Bruno Sacco’s designs paved the way for stylings we still see on the road today.
During his later years in the late the mid-1990s, he was integral to the styling of the A, M, CLK, SLK and V Class of vehicles.
Indirectly, Sacco’s influence on Mercedes filtered through to Formula One, with multiple Sacco-designed cars used as the official Formula One Safety Car.
Mercedes-Benz AG Non-Executive Chairman and CTO Markus Sch?fer said: “Bruno Sacco has contributed a great deal for our brand. He was responsible for the design of numerous iconic vehicles.”
“Rest in Peace, dear Bruno.”
