Combined Piled Raft Foundation | Discussion on draft IS code

Combined Piled Raft Foundation | Discussion on draft IS code

In the conventional pile foundation system, the entire load is transmitted to the piles through pile cap. However, in Combined Piled Raft Foundation (CPRF), the raft will also resist the load through contact pressure against soil beneath. For CPRF, the piles will be designed to undergo relatively higher displacement as compared to the conventional pile foundation to allow for the contact pressure between the raft and soil beneath. Hence, the settlement in CPRF system will be relatively higher than the conventional pile foundation system and at the same time diameter and number of piles will be lesser for CPRF as compared to the conventional pile foundation. Design of CPRF require extensive interface between geotechnical and structural engineers.

Recently, BIS has published draft document for design and construction of CPRF. In the document important areas such as angular distortion, differential settlement, pile-soil interaction, pile-pile interaction, raft-soil interaction, pile-raft interaction, information required for CPRF design, design steps for CPRF design, proof of design and construction of CPRF, monitoring of CPRF, etc.

We are planning to conduct live discussion for this important area. You may share the discussion points in the registration form which would help us to structure flow of the discussion.
