Ultimately, IRS-CI special agent’s commitment to their mission is what drives their success.??
“Our work is about more than just numbers and transactions,” Arp emphasized. “It’s about protecting vulnerable individuals and bringing traffickers to justice. That’s what motivates us every day.”??
IRS-CI continues to investigate those who exploit others to engage in acts against their will, such as in the case described earlier in this series: Operation Dark Nights.
Sumalee Intarathong was the last of 38 defendants sentenced in the investigation for her role in operating this large-scale international sex trafficking organization?responsible for coercing hundreds of Thai women to engage in commercial sex acts across the United States.
One of Intarathong's victims wrote to the Court: "I am a victim of human trafficking and suffered psychologically because I was afraid that I would be arrested or the traffickers would come hurt or kill me. I was so scared even after the defendants in my case were arrested because I knew them directly. I did not dare go outside and was not able to sleep for a long time."
“In the fight against human trafficking, following the money is often the key to bringing traffickers to justice and giving victims the chance to reclaim their lives,” Arp said.?
