This earth, a blue marble
in outer space, is a watery world,
spinning and turning
round the sun,
a spinning disc
of gold,
that rises
to begin our days.
The days of summer stretch,
and colors are bright and jewel-like,
pastel in the shade.
Water is serene;
the surface of a lake shimmers with purples,
blues and aquamarines-
silver, where light kisses pools,
and spinning eddies,
where yellow-eyed fish jump,
brown-bellied,
with black feathery gills.
The water-depths are gray-green
with water weeds,
and brown,
where brittle sticks
and leaves drift.
Swaying palms that swish
paint feathers-
that flutter on the surface,
swallowing light, creating shadows,
and enigmas,
for the mind to dream,
emotions to swim.
The mirror’s always moving, changing -
and the horizon,
a panorama of white buildings,
with white flags,
and colorful boats,
coming and going,
or bobbing on the surface,
moored near the jetties.
When night falls,
the sun spills its ink
on the serene canvas -
tinges the cobalt blue
to orange-pink,
lights the pure white clouds
with streaks of golden yellow -
a fan of flames.
The fire dips into the blue -
makes fire trails
as black crows silhouette the air,
like arrows leaving traces -
their calls ringing
through the evening -
winged sirens fade,
their outlines soften
to whispering grays.
The moon, an opalescent pearl,
a shy reflection of the sun,
turns to light our skies -
sometimes with soft yellow,
sometimes blood-red,
like a brooding volcano,
and on days unusual,
a blue vibrant moon
shines neon,
to brighten the blue marble -
a ripple,
in the vast ocean-skies,
where our life turns, through day
through night.
Your gray eye blinks,
and in that gaze
I see inky reflections shine-
of the lake,
the dark sheltering sky.

8 年A beautiful poem brought back my memories of seeing the sun rise at lake Huron of Michigan daily in summers.
