Colorless Souls
Often, I look at the photos I have taken and am stunned by what I see. I remember taking each one, but I don’t remember feeling so moved. It’s only after the photo is taken that I recognize the power, the beauty, the truth.
We are a family, all of us together. It doesn’t matter what we wear. Skin. Size. Weight. It’s all an illusion. There are souls inside us. Colorless souls. Invisible to the eye but not to the heart that’s open. We perceive each other’s souls with our hearts and that is what I feel when I look back at all the portraits I have done.
I know, for you it’s just social media. It’s About Us pages and speaker bios. No one sets out to show her soul; or his. But you see, that comes through whether you want it to or not. I argue that it’s the quality of soul that affects the photo most. Meaning that the degree to which one is willing to be authentic, honest, and vulnerable is the most important factor in a photograph.
At the end of the day you’re the one who chooses the photograph you show the world. I wish I could choose it but I can’t, I can only take the photo. But it is my intention to draw out and reveal the real person. And intention is powerful. So chances are every photo from your session with me will sing.
