PantherTec, a revolutionary Colorado athletic tech start-up, is currently targeting the markets of sports training to help coaches provide more effective and efficient methods to teach sport skills and improve athletic performance. With a mission to contribute to the industry beyond simply data collection, the PantherTec brand has launched a comprehensive mobile app and sensor system geared to change the athletic landscape through movement correction that the athlete truly feels during practice with instant feedback.
?
In general, most motion capture sensors systems are motion data collectors with one-way data transmission. This kinematic data is often stored for use at a later time by traditional standards, while other systems have visual feedback displayed on a screen or monitor. PantherTec’s patented Kinesthetic Awareness Trainer (KAT) system uses bi-directional sensors that compare an athletes’ actual movement technique to the optimal technique determined by their coach — and felt directly by an athlete through vibrations, audible sound, or both.
?
During practice, the KAT sensors deliver real-time corrective feedback to guide the wearer into and through an exact movement pattern. The vibratory feedback is delivered through the KAT’s proprietary, wear-anywhere sensors during every repetition – enabling athletes and patients to develop the appropriate ‘muscle memory’ even when practicing alone or training remotely.
?
One distinct feature of the KAT, compared to other training or analysis systems, is that instruction or technique comes directly from a coach. There is no magic algorithm, nor a one- size-fits-all technique to improving a sport skill, and a coach is still able to provide the knowledge, expertise and instinct that comes with individualized instruction while utilizing KAT technology. This insistence helps to maintain an effective coach-athlete relationship, while also giving all athletes the tools they need to practice on their own with instant feedback.

The KAT was patented in February 2021 and has undergone rigorous testing within basketball, baseball, racquetball, volleyball and more. The final pre-production KAT units will be ready for testing in early December.
?
The KAT system was designed and developed by Dr. Jo Shattuck, a former top-10 world-ranked pro athlete, elite coach and neuroscientist. She recognized the need for athletes to feel instruction in real time, instead of just hearing it or seeing it after a practice session had already ended. The KAT is a motion training tool, based upon the principles of neuroscience, to improve athletes’ perceptions of their body in time and space. Athletes can now feel and replicate the precise movements developed by their own trainers or skills coaches, even when they are alone.
“In my experience using the KAT system, I have seen firsthand how this technology can take the guesswork out of peak performance,” said Justin Wick, a current communications representative for Major League Baseball, a former NCAA Division I pitcher and the first member of the PantherTec Experts and Ambassadors team. “The KAT system is geared to create the feel of ideal movement in record time, and the feedback it provides is currently unmatched in the wearable landscape.”
?
The KAT system will also generate data for each individual repetition during practice — an untapped mine of data — to help coaches evaluate their own coaching technique decisions while also tracking skill progression and injury recovery over time.
?
In further product development, the PantherTec CoachAnywhere module is another planned design that will allow a coach to adjust athlete feedback over long-distance telecoaching. The system is also equipped to handle sports medicine and physical rehabilitation as well, helping to satisfy a wide range of athletic demands with limitless application potential. A clinic trial is underway at a neuro rehab center in Omaha, Nebraska.
