Colorado Covid ~ Outbreak of Kindness - Food Delivery and Food Giveaway

As I write this to you, the needs for food / medication delivery and distribution are rising exponentially, and so are the needs for protective gear for our volunteers and first responders to those in need.

Thank you for your interest in Outbreak of Kindness. Our goal is to make the model for helping communities be duplicative, so anyone/anywhere can build a pop-up style team for food delivery.

I started Outbreak of Kindness just 6 weeks ago, together with Cara McDonald, a Grand County resident and communication specialist, leaders from Public Health, the school system and the Inter-Faith network, and Office of Emergency Management.

The whole idea? Protect our community by supporting social distancing and isolation, and supporting those experiencing sudden hardship.

By soliciting and training volunteers and partnering with local public health and faith based organizations, we’ve been working to:

  1. Reach out to and assist people 60+ or medically at risk and unable to leave their homes with basic errands and shopping
  2. Recruit and help train volunteers
  3. Share relevant, accurate local health information with our network
  4. Promote and support agencies in need of resources to combat hunger and sudden food insecurity in mountain communities.

Organizing an army of volunteers is new to us, but we know the need is there and our local agencies need our support.

Where do you come in? If you’re able, we need you to amplify our message and support our work.

  1. Follow us on Facebook and invite your network to do the same.
  2. Sign up to one of the volunteer form Google docs on Facebook if you are able to volunteer
  3. Spread the word throughout your personal, recreational, neighborhood, professional, and faith-based networks, especially to those who should be socially isolating.
  4. Connect us to anyone in the public health and faith communities to amplify their efforts.
  5. Support us financially if you can to help us cover operational costs
