Color Code Identification... Worth Consideration.
Many assume that apparatus discharge gauges, valve rods, labels etc...will have identifying matching colors without asking. Manufacturers do color ID certain items as stated in NFPA 1901 but many additional options are available. There’s a lot to consider.
How about color coding the valve handle, the label under the appropriate discharge, the valve drain, the discharge gauge, the hose and coupling and the nozzle handle, pistol grip or rubber bumper? These are just a few things that might ease your department's overall operation and might want to be considered on your next purchase or perhaps a retrofit of an existing apparatus. How many times have we heard at a scene, "shut down the line". What line? Color code identification is becoming very popular as it aids in reducing fire ground confusion.
