LANDMARK AUCTION- Carrollton Courthouse, One of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places Sells to Out-of-Towner

LANDMARK AUCTION- Carrollton Courthouse, One of America's 11 Most Endangered Historic Places Sells to Out-of-Towner

The entire Colonial Oaks Senior Living family feels truly blessed today because we now have the opportunity to serve the great city of New Orleans!

We have two new communities planned in the beautiful Garden District and Uptown, and one of our projects includes the careful renovation of a historic national treasure, the famous Carrollton Courthouse, which has been vacant for years, and precariously sitting on the national top-11 endangered buildings list

We will be restoring this important landmark with our local experts (Tom Winingder, Patrick Schindler, Kendall Winingder and their entire team at Felicity Property Co.) and building a state-of-the-art senior living community on the site. Felicity Property Co. recently completed a gorgeous renovation of The Saint Anna and routinely wins awards from the Louisiana Landmarks Society.

The new senior living community at the Carrollton Courthouse site will be unlike any other in the nation. This massive renovation project revitalizing the historic landmark will poetically embody the Colonial Oaks' philosophy toward senior care of truly revitalizing the lives of our residents. The Colonial Oaks Senior Living family is honored to be able to carry on this historic building's legacy of service to the local community (formerly a courthouse and then a long-time public school) through serving the seniors of New Orleans. This new community will also marry the long-standing Colonial Oaks 40-year history and mission of serving seniors with the latest research, technology, and innovation of tomorrow.

Additionally, we plan to celebrate the Courthouse's important role as a local school over so many years and find ways to incorporate this into our renovation planning and programming. We'd love to have a collection of old yearbooks and other historic memorabilia from its school days and we will be working on tracking those down. One thing we have done at our communities in the past is host after school tutoring for local children. We love the synergy of cross-generational learning and that seems like a natural fit for the old Schoolhouse-Courthouse. We'll be exploring many more ideas over the coming months as the project planning commences.

We want to thank Reggie Winfield of Windfeel Properties, a local New Orleans real estate expert, for running a very professional and smooth process; thank you Reggie.
