?? Colloquium 2.2: Navigating the Future of Aerospace Tribology

Last week, we delved into the historical impact of aerospace innovations. From the detection of planes in WW II bringing us the microwave to spacecraft coatings influencing scratch-resistant eyewear.

This was the past. Now, let's turn our gaze to the future.

In 2024, the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) on Tribological Coatings presents a special session on aerospace applications. Tribological, protective, and functional coatings are pivotal in enhancing aircraft, helicopter, and satellite components, as well as their manufacturing processes. These coatings address challenges in harsh aerospace environments, including extreme temperatures (-60°C to 1500°C), mechanical stresses, and corrosive elements. Significantly, advancements in protective coatings are integral to the development of next-gen engines, promising higher efficiency, lower gas consumption, extended lifespan, and enhanced safety.

This year, the TT Session encourages abstract submissions covering a spectrum of topics:

  • Protective Coatings: Guarding against solid particle erosion and corrosion.
  • Oxidation-Resistant Coatings: Ensuring resilience in high-temperature environments.
  • Thermal Barrier Coatings Enhancement: Elevating performance in extreme conditions.
  • Icephobic Coatings: Addressing challenges posed by icy conditions.
  • Cutting-Edge Coatings: Tailored for hard-to-machine materials.
  • Hexavalent Chromium Alternatives: Exploring sustainable substitutes.
  • Coatings for Future Fuels: Adapting to alternative fuels, including hydrogen.
  • Functional Coatings for Satellites: Controlling thermal aspects in space environments.
  • Life Cycle Analysis: Evaluating the environmental impact of surface engineering solutions in aerospace.

The SVC is at the forefront of innovation, engagement, and technology with "Colloquium at the TechCon" bringing you a series of focused, technical conversations addressing critical industrial needs.

Anchored by technical presentations, each colloquium features roundtable discussions led by subject matter experts, promoting interaction and networking.

Following the success at the 2022 TechCon, this format returns in 2024 with three dynamic colloquiums!

1. Coating Thousands of Meters of Flexible Substrate in a Vacuum Coater - What Could Possibly Go Wrong

Commemoration by Andy Jack (Emerson & Renwick) honoring Dr. Charles Bishop's contributions to the Roll-to-Roll coating community.

2. The Challenge of Managing Defects in Production Optical Coating Processes

Mark your calendars for the colloquium at TechCon 2024!

3. CVD Today and Going Forward

CVD colloquium, moderator Kalpak Shaha.

?? But that is not all...
